truth or error

"it makes no difference what a man believes so long as he is sincere."

sounds logical. even charitable and noble.

but is it? more importantly, does it hold up?

it's a statement many banter around. it also expresses a philosophy many believe.  even so, the question remains ... is it true?

if it is, then it should hold up in any situation, any time, by any one.

so consider this: every year we hear about too many cases where someone jokingly pointed a gun at another, sincerely believing it was empty. the gun goes off and the other individual is killed ... the person who pulled the trigger sincerely believed "the gun wasn't loaded."

how many times have nurses sincerely believed they were giving a patient the right medicine only to learn too late they were wrong. how many surgeons sincerely believed they were performing the right surgery only to learn too late they were wrong.

in each case the person may have been 100% sincere in what they believed, only to learn too late they were 100% sincerely wrong.

sincerity isn't enough if the object of belief simply isn't true. sadly, too many people sincerely believe popular idioms, legends, and myths about God and His Word. the real tragedy is that many within the church are just as sincerely mistaken as the unchurched.

some "myths" masquerade as God's Word. other "myths" seem harmless enough, but are they?

it's important to recognize "myths" exist because people don't know the Truth. when we don't know the Truth, it becomes impossible to recognize a lie when it comes our way.

maybe your hungry to know the Truth. if so, why not join us as we conduct our own form of "mybusting" each sunday at 11:00 am.
